No. 2 Nebraska Volleyball Triumphs Over Michigan State in Homecoming Match

LINCOLN, NE – The No. 2-ranked Nebraska volleyball team returned to the Devaney Center after a three-week absence and delighted their home crowd with a resounding victory, defeating Michigan State in a thrilling match with scores of 25-12, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15 on Friday night.

Inside Nebraska's Geoff Exstrom shares three quick takeaways as the Huskers extend their undefeated streak to 16-0 this season.

Michigan State Proves a Challenge for the Huskers
Once again, Nebraska found themselves pushed to four sets in a matchup against the Spartans. Michigan State seems to bring out the competitive side of the Huskers, as they forced Nebraska into one of their toughest sets of the season last week, resulting in a 25-16 loss with a -.103 hitting percentage.

The third set against MSU on Friday proved challenging for the Huskers as they hit a disappointing .000 with 12 errors and 12 kills, leading to a 25-22 loss. Despite facing multiple five-point deficits, the Huskers could not secure a clean sweep.

Jackson and Beason Lead the Offensive Charge
Freshman Andi Jackson had faced some struggles in recent matches with hitting percentages of .176, .167, and .182. However, returning to Devaney, Jackson had a standout performance with 13 kills on an impressive .524 hitting percentage, and she also contributed six blocks.

Merritt Beason also had an outstanding game, hitting over .400 for the first time since September and finishing with 13 kills on a .423 hitting percentage. Beason's contribution extended to the defensive side with eight digs and three blocks.

Off Night for Harper Murray
Up until this match, the freshman sensation Harper Murray had been consistently strong in her debut season. However, in game 16, she faced her first significant struggles. Struggling to handle Michigan State's serves, Murray was substituted for Hayden Kubik midway through the second set. At that point, Murray had a hitting percentage of only .077, with three kills on 13 attempts and two errors.

Kubik made an impact with her first kill of the season moments after her entry into the game. Murray started in the third set but continued to face difficulties, committing three errors on three swings. This led Coach John Cook to turn to Kubik once again. Murray did improve in the fourth set, but it was an off night for one of the Huskers' top hitters, finishing with seven kills on a .080 hitting percentage.
