Jonathan Taylor, the running back for the Indianapolis Colts, declared his ongoing commitment to the team as he nears a return to action following a trade request made earlier this offseason. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Jonathan Taylor underlined his present commitment to the Indianapolis Colts.
"I don't think it matters whether I declare my commitment or not, because I'm here," Taylor stated, despite his absence for most of the training camp.
"If someone lacked commitment, they wouldn't be here. And right now, I'm here, and my top priority is to give it my all in this first practice. It's been over 290 days, I believe."
Taylor, a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, is in the final year of his four-year, $7.8 million rookie contract, with a $4.3 million base salary slated for this season.
When asked about the possibility of a contract extension, Taylor declined to engage in the discussion.
"I'm not here to discuss contract matters," he remarked. "Those discussions were for the offseason, but the season is here. We have the Tennessee Titans on the horizon, a divisional matchup. What matters now is how we perform on the field."
The Colts have designated Taylor to return from the physically unable to perform list, granting them a 21-day window to add him to the active roster. Coach Shane Steichen suggested that Taylor may make his comeback on Sunday against the Titans.
Reports from Indianapolis indicate that tensions between Taylor and the front office have subsided, but Taylor emphasized that his primary focus is his physical readiness to contribute to the team.
"The most significant change is that I'm finally able to step onto the field," he said. "As I mentioned, it's a momentous day for me."
In the previous season, Taylor rushed for 861 yards and scored four touchdowns in 11 starts. The 2021 All-Pro selection has amassed 4,643 yards from scrimmage and 36 touchdowns in 43 career games, with 41 starts.
